Questions
Is this for me?
The honest answers to the things people ask before they book. If your question isn't here, email me — I'll always reply.
What actually happens in a session?
We meet — online over Google Meet, or in person in Edinburgh. We talk for the first 20–30 minutes about what's alive for you. Then you lie down, eyes covered, and I guide you into a continuous, circular breath held with music for roughly 40 minutes. Afterwards we integrate — a slow conversation about what moved, what arrived, and what to take with you.
Does it work online, or do I need to come in person?
Both work. Online sessions are held with as much depth as in-person ones — the breath does the work, and your body doesn't know we're on a screen. You'll need a quiet, private room, headphones, and space to lie down.
How much does it cost?
Pricing is discussed on the free discovery call — it depends on whether you're joining The Arc or booking a single session, and what's right for where you are. The call itself is free and there's no pressure to commit.
Is this therapy?
No. Breathwork is a somatic practice — it works with what the body is holding. It sits alongside therapy and clinical care beautifully, but it doesn't replace either. If you're in acute crisis or under active psychiatric care, please talk to your clinician before booking.
Are there any medical reasons I shouldn't do this?
Sustained conscious breathing is generally safe, but it isn't right for everyone. Please talk to me first if you have: cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, epilepsy, recent surgery, glaucoma or detached retina, severe asthma, a personal or family history of aneurysm, bipolar or psychotic conditions, or if you are pregnant. The intake form covers this, and we'll always talk it through together.
Will I feel something?
Almost always, yes — but rarely what you expected. Tingling in the hands and face is common and normal. Emotion can arrive: laughter, tears, stillness, joy, grief. Some sessions are quiet and restful; others are vast. The breath meets you where you are.
How often should I do it?
There's no rule. Some people come once and take a lot from it. Most find a rhythm of every two to four weeks for the first few months, then drop into a longer cadence. If you want a container for the work, the Arc is built for that.
How is The Arc different from a one-off session?
A single session is powerful — but you leave with a memory, not a practice. The Arc is six weeks, one to one — story, breath, daily practice, and a check-in the month after. You leave with a system, not a dependency.
Do I need breathwork experience to join The Arc?
No. Most men who come to the Arc are new to breathwork — one podcast, one book, one moment that cracked something open. The Arc is where we build it from the ground up, together.
Why is The Arc for men?
Because it's who I know how to walk this with. I've been the man on autopilot, capable outside and quietly flat inside. The language, the pacing, and the way we work is shaped around that. Women who resonate with the message are welcome — the door is open.
Can I reschedule or cancel?
Yes. Life happens. With at least 48 hours' notice we'll find another time at no cost. Cancellations under 24 hours may count as a session held. Email me directly at joe@breathworkwithjoe.com.
Come and breathe. Remember who you are.
